Meet Athenea Faye

Athenea is a registered Clinical Psychologist, based in Gauteng, South Africa where she runs her private practice. She is a firm believer in living your values, and in embracing your authenticity. She is passionate about helping individuals and groups to become their best selves, overcome their past traumas, and reach their full potential.

Psychology Qualifications & Work Experience

Athenea studied her bachelor’s degree in Psychological Counselling through UNISA, which she achieved cum laude. She then went on to complete her Honours degree (cum laude) in psychological counselling through UNISA. Despite the numerous rejections she faced when applying for Masters, she was thankfully accepted into the Master’s Programme at University of KwaZulu Natal. She completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, cum laude. She completed her intensive Clinical Psychology Internship at the Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, and Groote Schuur Hospital in the Western Cape, and provided a weekly therapeutic service to the Lotus River Community Health Centre. Her community service year was completed at the Sizwe Tropical Diseases Hospital in Gauteng, which specializes in multi-drug-resistant TB.

She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an independent practitioner (PS0158372) and her practice number with the BHF is 1218557.

She is registered as a Psychologist & Trauma Emergency Responder for Kenyon International.

Therapy with Athenea

Athenea prefers to use a person-centered approach with her clients and patients, ensuring that their individual needs and challenges are addressed, and will tailor the specific therapeutic approaches based on her training, and on what will work for the patient.

She works with a range of patients, from children to adults, couples and families and is able to converse in English and Afrikaans.

She has extensive training in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, medical issues, bereavement, anxiety, mood disorders, depression, PTSD, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and HIV.

Previous Experience

Athenea has a long corporate history before she became a psychologist. She has worked in the banking, consulting, and printing industries. She completed her Higher Certificate in Change Management through WorldsView Academy, and she has extensive experience in the Change Management field, doing group facilitation for Agile teams, facilitating Servant Leadership programmes and working with individuals and groups who are experiencing work-related difficulties.

She has worked for university-accredited companies providing content, support, and programme development for the University of Toronto, and the London School of Economics, Leadership and Change. She is well-known for bringing structure to chaos and is enthusiastic about helping individuals embrace their greatness.
